    To expand (x + 3)(x + 4), every term in the first bracket multiplies every term in the second — four products in total.

    A grid keeps it organised: x × x = x², x × 4 = 4x, 3 × x = 3x, 3 × 4 = 12.

    Expand (x + 2)(x + 5).

    Watch the signs. In (x − 3)(x + 2) the last product is −3 × 2 = −6, not +6.

    Expand (x − 3)(x + 2): x² + 2x − 3x − 6 = x² − x − 6.

    Expand (x + 4)(x − 1).
